Game Day! Your Gender Reveal Basketball Questions, Answered
Each gender reveal basketball is a 6" handcrafted ball packed with pink or blue powder. A hard slam dunk onto the court or a strong bank shot off the backboard breaks the shell and releases a big burst of color, while normal handling will not set it off.
- Lower the hoop: drop an adjustable hoop so anyone can throw down a dunk.
- Slam it: dunk it hard through the rim so it smashes onto the court for the biggest cloud.
- Bank it: a hard throw off the backboard works too. A soft lay-up will not open it.
- Missed? Grab a spare from the 2 or 4 Pack and go again.
Most families choose the 2 Pack so there is a spare for a practice dunk or a second camera angle. The 4 Pack is our best value: perfect for nervous shooters, a fake-out shot with a pink & blue mix, or letting both parents take a turn.
The mix gives you one pink and one blue basketball per pair. Families use it for a fake-out reveal (dunk the wrong color first for laughs), a game of HORSE where guests pick a team, or twin celebrations.
Our powder is non-toxic, cornstarch-based and biodegradable. It brushes off and washes out of most clothing with a regular wash and rinses off driveways, courts and backboards with a hose. Keep it away from eyes and delicate fabrics.
Go with a Basketballs or Bows theme: team jerseys for guests, a scoreboard photo backdrop and a buzzer-beater countdown. Let Dad throw down the reveal dunk while guests fire our confetti cannons, or have big brother hit the game-winning shot. Find more ideas in our sports gender reveal ideas guide.
Yes. Every basketball is handcrafted with a sturdy shell and carefully packaged to arrive ready for game day. Store it at room temperature until the party. If anything ever arrives damaged, our support team will make it right.
Film in slow motion from the side of the hoop, about 10–15 feet back, with the sun behind the camera. Shoot during golden hour for glowing color, and add our smoke bombs so the whole crowd erupts in the same color.

Basketballs or Bows? One Dunk Tells All
Lower the hoop, line up the slam dunk or bank it hard off the backboard, and watch the ball burst into a cloud of pink or blue powder.

The ball says it first
One big dunk and the ball explodes pink or blue. The crowd goes wild: the moment you'll replay forever.
Brick-proof: grab the 4 Pack
Nerves are real. Extra basketballs mean a practice dunk, a backup for an air ball and a second take for the camera.
As seen on ESPN
NBA players and college coaches have used our exploding basketballs for their own reveals, shared across ESPN and Bleacher Report.
Nobody guesses early
Every ball looks the same from the outside and ships in discreet packaging, so a friend can set it up without spoiling the surprise.
For outdoor use only. Dunk or shoot on an open driveway or outdoor court and keep guests well back from the hoop.
